Overview Estate Owned by: Fabrizio Pratesi Wine Region: Toscana Winemaker: Fabrizio Pratesi Total Acreage Under Vine: 50 Estate Founded: 1983 Winery Production: 90,000 Bottles

Location Located in Carmignano, a small town in the province of Prato to the northwest of Florence. Home to only ten producers, Carmignano is very small, but has enjoyed an excellent reputation for high quality wine since the Renaissance. The family is able to make the most of the 50 acres under vine by planting at an extremely high density — more than 4,200 vines per acre.

History The Pratesi family has been producing wine in the Carmignano for five generations. Pietro Pratesi bought the property in 1875 in the heart of Carmignano where they produced wine and oil. The family began bottling and selling its wine in 1983. In 1997, Fabrizio Pratesi took over the family winery.

History Fabrizio modified the production philosophy under the guidance of Stefano Chioccioli, a well-known consulting enologist and agronomist. Together they decided to plant new vineyards at a greater density of 4,200 vines per acre, enabling them to dramatically reduce the yields and boost the flavor concentration in the grapes.

History For many years, Pratesi focused exclusively on the production of the Carmignano DOCG. – This red wine with a centennial history has always been made blending Sangiovese and Cabernet, a very unusual case among the Sangiovese- based Tuscan wines. Today, Pratesi produces rich, flavorful and elegant wines as the best traditions in Carmignano demand.

Owner/Winemaker Fabrizio Pratesi Took over the family winery in 1997, seeking to produce a new breed of top-notch, refined wines from Carmignano. Built a state-of-the art winery that is equipped with the latest in winemaking technology. Today, Fabrizio has successfully realized his dream, as the many accolades bestowed on his wines can attest. He travels around the globe to promote his wines and tell the fascinating history of Carmignano’s wines.

Consulting Winemaker Stefano Chioccioli One of Italy’s most active and appreciated consulting winemakers. A Tuscan-born agronomist and enologist who was educated in Florence Worked at Ruffino, where he learned from the legends of modern Italian winemaking: Giacomo Tachis and Franco Bernabei. He currently consults for dozens of Italian wineries, including Allegrini, Fanti, Livernano, Pratesi and Tua Rita.

Carmignano Toscano DOCG 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot Aromas of vanilla, wild barries, black cherry, licorice, and tobacco. Lively, with spicy nuances, this wine is delicate yet well-defined, showing harmonious, acidic balance and a luscious, soft body nicely framed by juicy tannins. An excellent accompaniment to Alfredo sauces, polenta with duck confit, and jerk- seasoned dishes.

Carmione Toscano IGT 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc Bouquet of sweet wild berries, cedar, licorice and spices. This is a full-bodied, rich, well structured wine with jammy fruit, fine tannins and a persistent finish. Powerful and complex, Carmione is excellent with grilled steak, game, ribs and aged cheeses.

Locorosso Sangiovese Toscana IGT 100% Sangiovese Notes of strawberry, cherry, black currant, chocolate and black pepper. Supple and well-rounded on the palate, this wine shows beautiful structure and long length. Recommended with pizza, Bolognese sauces, paella, and beef ravioli.
