The Introduction (Preamble) Catch the listener's interest Preview of the presentation topics or procedure (if any) Greetings & Salutations To catch the listener's interest you may want to try a few techniques. You could ask a rhetorical question or start with a short story that will pull the listener in, as long as you follow two basic rules: 1) The story or question you choose is germane to your topic. 2) You finish the story or answer your question in your conclusion.

The Body Move the topic from general to specific. Most speakers give a general background of the topic. Narrow and focus to the topics as explained earlier. You should be very careful to follow the pattern as outlined in your introduction. If you tell that you are going to discuss issues A, B and C, you must discuss A, B, C, not B, C, A or C, B, A. The pattern or construction of the body is an important issue, it must be logical and rationale.

Methods of Presentation - Chronological order - the time order in which events took place. - Cause to effect - show how your topic was the result of essential events. - Climax order - work from the least important information to the most important. - Anti-climax order - work from the most to least important information. - Spatial order - describe the physical setup of your topic.

The Conclusion (Epilogue) Finally, you move to your conclusion. To begin, never say, "in conclusion," or "at last," in your speech. - Review - Memorable statement - Closing Remarks

Presentation Tips Body language. -Standing, walking or moving about with appropriate hand gesture or facial expression. -Use audio-visual aids or props for enhancement -Persuade your audience effectively. Speak with conviction -Speak loudly and clearly. -If you made an error, correct it, and continue. Do not read from notes -Use the 3-second method. -Use your eye contact to make everyone in your audience feel involved. Maintain sincere eye contact

-Keep audience interested throughout your entire presentation. Add humor -Use a timer or clock to time your presentation when preparing it at home. -Thank your audience and sit down. Know when to STOP talking or timing -Allow yourself and your audience a little time to reflect and think.Pause Do not, or at least avoid: - play with keys or coins in your pocket. - use your hands too much, touching your nose or ears and excessive coughing. - use gestures that indicate you are washing your hand of a situation or wringing your hands because of frustration. - use a praying gesture as some may find this offensive or foot tap as this may be perceived as patronizing. - use a pointer, pen, pencil or chalk to point at an individual may be perceived as offensive.

"Tell 'em what you're going to tell, 'em; then tell 'em what you told 'em." tell 'em; and The Introduction (Preamble) The Body The Conclusion (Epilogue) Effective Presentation During the presentation remember and use appropriate manner and tips as explained in this lecture.
