Outreach #1: Healthy Tailgate Recipe Contest We organized a competition where we asked people to send us their favorite healthy snacks for tailgating parties. After we gathered the recipes, we selected four that we thought were the best and healthiest. We made the snacks as a group and brought them to a home football game. Then we had fans try the snacks and vote on their favorite! After we tallied the votes, we got to announce the winner over the loudspeaker during half time of the game The winner won a fruit basket!

“ We did an awesome job of inspiring people to eat healthier.” -Jace Phillips “It was really fun! A lot of people came through to see what we were doing!” -Cheyenne Whipple

In February, we did a project where we sold healthy snacks at a home basketball game. We had a magical box that you reached into and felt the fruit that was inside, then tried to guess the fruit. If you got it right, you got to taste it. More people preferred to buy the grapes and carrots instead of putting their hand in the box. Overall, we had fun with the project! From the concessions stand, we had healthy snacks including grapes and carrots.

“People liked the fruit even better than the hotdogs.” -Cierra Chastain “It was really fun!” -Jaxon Blackburn “This project proved that people can try healthy snacks and actually like them!” -Jace Phillips

Outreach #3 Health Fairs at North Powder, Elgin, Imbler, Cove and Union Working with an OHSU nursing student, we created a booth that traveled to all of the schools’ fairs Our booth taught kids how much fat was in their unhealthy snacks The activity was to scoop fat from Crisco jars to represent how many teaspoons of fat there are in common unhealthy snacks The snacks we had at the booth were cookies, burrito, corndog, Reese’s bar, cupcakes and Cheetos We got to help out with all of the different booths during the Union fair

Here are some fun pictures from all of the outreach projects we’ve done! These are some from the Union Health Fair!
