The Lost Heiress Author: Catherine Fisher Published by: The Penguin Group; 2011 Luke Brown

Introduction This fictional book takes place in the world of Anara. The plot of the story is the keeper Galen and his scholar Raffi finding the heiress to the throne of Tasceron. With the Interrex (heiress) in their care, they have a chance to rebuild the old way of life, before the Watch took over.

Main Characters The protagonist of this story is the sixteen year old scholar Raffi. He is an intelligent, but sometimes thoughtless induvidual. The antagonist for most of the story would be the thief lord Alberic. He is very short, with an even shorter temper, and a great greed for gold and power.

Central Conflict The main conflicy of the story is of Galen the keeper and Raffi, on a quest to find and retrieve the lost heiress to the throne of Tasceron. This will help them in their ultimate goal of defeating the Watch, a military organization which brought about the fall of the Keepers. It is possible that the heiress could be in the hands of the Watch, and they know who they have, or they could know nothing. Or she could be completely lost to both sides, and the protagonists would have wasted much precious time.

Minor Characters A few of the minor characters play a very big role in the story. One of which is Carys, a young adult Watchspy, who has befriended the protagonists and switched her allegiance to the keepers. Another minor character with an important role would be the Sekoi, of a race of tall humanoid cat-like creatures. The Sekoi joins Galen and Raffi when their interests run paralel, but ends up being a valuable ally. Also, there is the Watchlord Braylwin. He is a scheming, greedy, and manipulative character, and is a major hinderance to Carys as she tries to find out about her past and assist the keepers.

What The Critics Think n One review states that it is a good, sequel in that it does a solid job keeping readers entertained and broadening the overall storyarc. n Teenreads.com states “…an engrossing tale in which technology has meshed with faith to create a powerful new mythology.” http://thebooksmugglers.com/2011/06/book-review-the-lost-heiress-by-catherine-fisher.html http://www.teenreads.com/reviews/the-lost-heiress-relic-master-book-two

My Opinion As a strong fan of fictional novel serieses, I can confidently say that this book has been one of the more enjoyable parts of a series that I have read. The plot is expansive, and character development is engaging and unpredictable.
