1 Anatomy lecture 26-10-2008 Gluteal Region
Structures undercover of gluteus maximus

2 Gluteal surface of hip bone

3 Gluteus maximus ORIGIN Outer surface of Ilium, sacrum, coccyx
and sacro tuberous Ligament. Insertion: Gluteal tuberosity of Femur and iliotibial Tract. Nerve : Inferior gluteal nerve Action: Extends and laterally Rotates thigh.

4 GLUTEUS MAXIMUS

5 STRUCTURES UNDER GLUTEUS MAXIMUS

6 Gluteus medius Origin: Insertion: Nerve: Outer surface of ilium
greater trochanter of femur. Nerve: Superior gluteal nerve Action Abduct thigh

7 Gluteus minimus Origin: Outer surface Of ilium. Insertion:
grearer trochanter Nerve : superior gluteal Action abduction

8 Piriformis muscle Comes through Greater sciatic notch. Action
(key muscle) Comes through Greater sciatic notch. Action Laeral rotator of hip joint Ligaments: Sacrotuberous Sacrospinous

9 Iliotibial tract it is a deep fascia of the thigh
Most of gluteal maximus Muscle fiber inserted Into the iliotibial tract

10 PIRIFORMIS&SCIATIC NERVE

11 Sciatic nerve Formation Sacral plexus Root value L4-S3 of sacral
The thickest nerve in the body

12 Greater and lesser sciatic notch
Greater sciatic notch: lesser sciatic notch: it provides the exit from the pelvis to the an intrance into the perineum from gluteal region the gluteal region : 1- piriformis tendon of obturator internus 2- sciatic nerve muscle 3- post cutaneous nerve of the thigh nerve to obturator internus 4- sup and inf gluteal arteries and veins 5- pudendal nerve pudendal nerve 6- nerves to the obturator internus and quadratus 7- internal pudendal artery and vein

13 Clinical anatomy I.M injection The gluteal region divide into
4 quadrant and the injection shoud be: At the upper lateral quadrant

14 POSTERIOR COMPARTMENT OF THE THIGH

15 HAM STRING MUSCLES 1.SEMI MEMBRANOSUS 2.SEMI TENDINOSUS
3.BICEPS FEMORIS 4.SCIATIC NERVE DIVIDES INTO TIBIAL AND THE COMMON PERONEAL NERVE 5.HAM STRING MUSCLES FLEXE THE KNEE JOINT AND EXTEND THE HIP JOINT

16 SCIATIC NERVE INJURY PLEASE DON’T INJECT INTO THE SCIATIC NERVE AND SAVE ONE LOWER LIMB PLEASE GIVE IM INJECTION INTO THE SUPERO LATERAL QUADRATANT OF THE GLUTIAL RIGION AND SAVE THE LIMB

17 Thank you Dr. K.V.K Associate professor thankyou
