The CNA’s role  Know how much help each resident needs with ADLs (This assessment is done by the licensed nurse and rehab staff)  Encourage –participation in ADLs –ambulation according to the care plan –movement of legs and feet if wheelchair bound  Assist immobile residents –frequent position changes –protective padding for bony areas –keep skin clean and dry October 2013 Health in motion

Tips for encouraging movement  Resist the temptation to do everything for the resident  Allow residents to use their own muscles when –reaching for items –repositioning –bathing –dressing  Use it or lose it is good advice!
