  Goal: to get my Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences, and then after that perhaps my Masters Degree as well, in order to be able to apply for Dental School later on  I aspire to become a dentist, or perhaps an orthodontist in the future, and in order to become that, I will have to apply to the Bachelors' of Science program at UBC after high school, in order to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist. I know that I will love this program, because I have always been intrigued by the sciences education, all except astronomy, and have always wanted to become a dentist and pursue my education in the medical field. Program: Bachelor’s of Science

  In order to apply for the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC, you have to have certain courses and credits that you can take in the science program there, and it is recommended that you have a Bachelor’s of Science. Although you can get a higher degree like your Masters Degree and apply, but that takes just a bit longer.  To be able to apply to the Bachelor’s of Science program, you have to have outstanding averages in grades 11 and 12, and sometimes even 10. To Be Able to Apply …

  To be considered for the program, you have to take certain courses in grades 11 and 12 and they are:  In grade 11: English 11, a Language 11, Mathematics 11, Physics 11, Chemistry 11, and a Social Studies 11 course.  In grade 12: English 12, Principles of Mathematics 12, or Pre-Calculus 12 (minimum 67%), 2 other approves grade 12 courses, including at least one Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Geology 12, or physics 12.  Overall, in grade 11 you must take 6 of the mentioned courses, and in grade 12, 4 of them. To Be Able to Apply …

  The lowest your average can be is 70%, although that does not guarantee acceptance into UBC for this program.  Usually, UBC accepts applicants who have an average of a high 80% or higher than 90% for the Bachelor’s of Science program, as it requires a lot of knowledge and hard work, so you must prove yourself.  They also accept IB students, but your total should be around 29-32 points (out of 36 or 42)  These are just averages, but I know that I will work to the best of my abilities to get a very high average in order to apply to this program at UBC, and achieve my goals. How Should Your Grades Be To Apply For This Program:

  Your personal file, who you are, extracurricular works and activities, volunteer work, any sports or music you have played, or any campagnas or leadership activities and roles you have done, are taken into account as well, and in fact they are very important when choosing between applicants for university. But It’s Not All About Marks…

  The science program at UBC is very versatile and it can be whatever you want it to be.  An advantage to the science program is that There are many courses available to you when you enter the program, and you can customize your timetable and courses according to your interests and where you decide you want to go in life.  All your courses will be science related and they are… What Is the Program Like:

  All the science related courses within the program are : loads of chemistry, physics, biology, and many more specialized branches such as biochemistry and biophysics.  If you, like me, want to get into the Faculty of Dentistry later on, or the Medical programs, you can take courses that will help you specifically get there, and those will be available to you when you are accepted and have a timetable and courses, and of course a path to choose from. Courses in the Program

  The Science bachelor’s Degree is like any other Bachelor’s program where it takes 4 years to finish.  Although 4 years is the full time in order to get your degree, there have been people who take more courses per year and semester, and therefore finish at a 3 year point. But it does takes a lot more hard work and determination, and a lot of studying!  If you choose to go into Dental School after your Bachelor’s Degree, you will apply after the 4 years, and that will usually take another 4 years to complete dental school. How Long Does It Take?

  The annual fee of the program costs around $5,000 ($4, 988.10) but this estimate does not include the cost of books, supplies, etc.. Which cost around $1300  A typical cost for a room and meal plan is between $6,500 and $8,500 for the eight-month school year, so unless you have the money coming in, student loans, or a scholarship, I don’t suggest living on campus, as it is very expensive/year, including the cost of food, rent, internet, etc… How Much does it cost?

  There are 2 great scholarships offered at UBC, both including an award of approximately $5,000 and renewable awards of up to $40,000 payable over four years.  1) The Major Entrance Scholarship : These scholarships recognize students who excel across the board and who have demonstrated academic and leadership achievements in the arts, community, athletics, and school. Scholarships

  2) The Schulich Leader Scholarships : recognizes students across Canada who demonstrate excellence in academics and community leadership, and plan to study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas at either of UBC’s campuses during their undergraduate degree.  You may also get scholarships from other club and organizations, etc..  Other than scholarships, UBC, and the government are always offering student loans, and a benefit is that you don’t have to repay until you finish your education and get your degree which is great! (unlike a bank loan) Scholarships

  Overall, this program is perfect for me, and I will work extra hard and with determination, in order to maintain a very good average in order to be accepted for the science program, and possibly get a scholarship as well. After I finish this program, I plan on taking the admissions test and applying for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) Program in order to further pursue my education in the sciences and dentistry. After those 4 years as well, I will again pursue orthodontists which takes another couple of years, but in the end this is my dreams and chasing it will always be worth it! Path to Dentistry…

 THE END!
