4 Active Listening Active Listening is the process of repeating key or important facts of a person. This lets the person know that they are being heard. Active listening is important to build a healthy relationship.

5 Assertive Discipline Is the process of punishing a child reasonably. Let the child know what he did wrong and then give a reasonable punishment. This will earn respect and will make the child listen.

6 Chore Compliance This gives the child responsibility around the house. It also teaches them to take pride in their home. Children should be given specific examples of what is wanted of them.

7 Consequences Punishment: are negative consequences that will make a certain behavior weaker. Punishments are to be reasonable not to strict. Remember use Assertive Discipline. Rewards: are positive consequences that will make a certain behavior stronger. Rewards are not to be used as bribes but for actions deserving reward.

8 Contingency Management
This gives the child a good idea of what he/she is expected to do. The rewards available for doing and the punishments given for not doing. It also gives good time management skills. Make certain rewards cost certain points. Let them know the punishment for not doing it

9 Contracting Contracting is like Contingency Management where a system is put together and a chart is put together. Except the child puts their mind into the charts and rewards and punishments.

10 I Statements I statements are used when we want someone to know weather a behavior is giving us a negative feeling. These help open the lines of communication and let others know how we feel.

11 Role Modeling Behavior
Role-modeling behavior is an important aspect of parenting. In general, if we want our children to behave a certain way we should behave that way ourselves.

12 School and Homework Compliance
Helping our children get an education is one of the most important things we must do as a parent. Setting aside a time for homework is important, it is also important to monitor the child closely during this time. Like Chore Compliance we must set up a system of rewards and punishments.

13 Specific Commands This is when we want our children to do something. We must give specific examples of what we want done and when it is expected to be finished. If it is not done a reasonable punishment is given.

14 Praise This refers to expressing thanks and appreciation. People will make an effort when praise is given. Do not keep giving the same praise every time or it will not work effectively. Examples of Praise That’s really nice! Keep up the good work! Terrific! Thank you very much! Much better! Excellent!
