2 Her Early Years In 1822, Harriet was born in Brodas Plantation in Maryland. Her real name was Armita Ross.

3 Her Family She had ten brothers and sisters.
Her father was taken away from her when she was a child. She was named after her mother.

4 Her Adult Years When Harriet was about 16, she got hit by an iron weight, and a year later, she saw visions in her head. In 1844 Harriet married John Tubman, who was a free man. In 1849 Harriet got out of slavery.

5 Underground Railroad On her first mission she threatened to shoot someone! Harriet shot two of her teeth out with a pistol. In she helped slaves escape on the underground railroad.

6 Her Jobs John Brown asked Harriet on a mission, but it didn’t work out. Brown got hung. In Harriet was a nurse, a spy, a cook, and a soldier in the Union Army.

7 Why She Was Famous Harriet started the underground railroad.
Harriet guided 150 soldiers to the South and they freed 750 slaves.

8 Honors In Auburn, New York there was a plaque erected in 1932 that was put on a statue of her. Every year on March 10, they have a memorial in her honor at the house she died in in Auburn, New York.

9 Her Elderly Years She lived a long life until the age of 94.
Then her death came March 10, 1913 in Auburn, New York 93 years ago. The picture shown on the side is the last picture she ever took.
