We have to… Replace with own class version from first lesson of project

To do well in football you need to play by the ‘Fair Play Rules’. These mean that: All members of the team consider each other. All members of the team play for each other (it’s a team effort!) People don’t foul each other. It’s the team that will do well (or not!) not individual members. The team plays to it’s strengths. All team members work hard for each other. What do the fair play rules mean for us in our classroom today?

 Remember we will be finishing the project half way through today’s lesson & you will be presenting your work!  Where are you up to with your work?  What do you need to get done in the time that you have left?  Also, remember that you need to answer these questions in your work…  Who was involved?  What happened?  Why did it happen?  Where did it happen?  How does it make you feel?

Timeline event 1. Martin as a child buying shoes with his dad 2. Martin’s religious beliefs & his job as a minister 3. Rosa Parks – bus boycott & Martin’s part in it. 4. When God told Martin:‘Stand up for what’s right’. 5. Martin’s house being bombed 6. Martin being stabbed & beaten up 7. The ‘Sit-ins’ & the ‘Freedom Rides’ 8. Martin’s ‘I have a dream’ speech 9. Martin winning the Nobel Peace Prize 10. Martin’s death  Groups in the class have looked at each of these important events that shaped the life of Martin Luther King Jr.  Each group will come to the front of the class & explain what they found out by answering these questions & explaining their pictures… Who was involved? What happened? Where did it happen? Why did it happen? How does it make you feel?

 You need to think about the work that you have done as part of the Martin Luther King Jr timeline project.  You need to think about what you have done well & what you would do differently or better if you did another project.  Then, you need to give yourself: What skills have we used in this project?

 You need to think about all that you have heard & found out about Martin Luther King Jr over the past few lessons.  For homework you need to think about Martin’s life & the things that he did to defend the right:  You need to finish these sentences as well as you can (1 line for each is not enough!), there are no right or wrong answers… 1.If I had been Martin Luther King Jr, when my house was attacked, I would have felt… 2.If I had been Martin Luther King Jr, in the ‘I have a dream’ speech, I would have said… 3.If I had been Martin Luther King Jr, my Christianity would have been important to me because… 4.If Martin Luther King Jr was in Pontypool & West Mon school today, what things do you think he would want to change? Why? Can you do anything to change these things? When children are born they are free & should all be treated in the same way.
