Our goal is to assemble a group of young men at Dunwoody High School that will represent our school and program with respect, honor, and integrity on and off the basketball court. These young men will make the most of the opportunity by working relentlessly year round to become the best basketball players and student athletes they can be. We want the experience of being a Wildcat to be one of the best times of their life.

Each player and parent must sign the Player Code of Conduct prior to participation in any basketball activities. Just a reminder that players who are selected for the teams are expected to be at ALL TEAM EVENTS. No excuses. Schedule tutoring, doctors, etc around your basketball commitments. If you cannot make that commitment, you should not try out for our basketball program. We suggest you review the Player Code of Conduct prior to tryouts. A copy can be found on the team website at www.DunwoodyBoysBasketball.com

To realize our potential and improve both individually and as a team, we plan for everyone to be at each practice / game. Unlike in school, there is no way to “makeup” lost practice time. To that extent, we are initiating the following policy: EXCUSED ABSENCES (require advance notice and coaches approval) Conditioning/Training Must Be Made up in an AM practice session. Cannot start the next game. ONLY ALLOWED TWO PER SEASON After TWO, one game suspension per violation.

To realize our potential and improve both individually and as a team, we plan for everyone to be at each practice / game. Unlike in school, there is no way to “makeup” lost practice time. To that extent, we are initiating the following policy: UNEXCUSED ABSENCES (without prior notice or for non approved reasons) Conditioning/Training Must Be Made up in an AM practice session. Cannot PLAY the next game. On second violation – suspended from team, uniform turned in.

Each player will be timed in a mile run and ranked on his time by position (guard, wing or post). Players who have been consistently working out with us during strength and conditioning (in attendance 90% of the time) in the pre season will not have to run the mile as we have documented their time over the pass two months. If you’re not sure of your attendance, please ask the coaches. Last year our best time in the mile was just over 5:00. The mile will be run twice (once before each tryout) and the top score taken. Did you know? The average player runs nearly 5 miles in a basketball game?

 Coaches will meet to tabulate and discuss scores after each tryout. Players will be ranked by position. No parents are allowed to present at tryouts. Please pick you son up when tryouts end.  First cuts for the older group will be posted Wednesday, October 28 th at Noon on the door of the coaches office. Players should check the list during lunch and those listed will report to practice at Dunwoody Baptist Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30.  First cuts for the 9 th grade group will be posted Thursday, October 29 th at Noon on the door of the coaches office. Players should check the list during lunch and those listed will report to practice at Dunwoody Baptist Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30.  There will be a mandatory meeting for players making the first cut and their parents at 7:30pm on Thursday, October 29 th in the cafeteria. Please bring your check books.  Those playing fall sports, as well as those previously cut, will be given a two hour morning tryout on Saturday, Nov 7 th from 8am to 10am. There will be a parent meeting for final cut players later that week.

Making cuts is the hardest part of being a coach. Basketball, being the most popular sport in the world and having the least number of players on a roster and shortest game makes things even more difficult. We developed this method to be fair to all those trying out. 10 th, 11 th and 12 th Grade (VARISTY and JV) Up to 15 players per team VARSITY - Six (6) highest ranked players in the program and others spots filled by ranking, position, past involvement, off season efforts, program need and coaches’ judgement. JV – Next (6) highest ranked remaining junior, sophomore and possibly freshmen players in the program basd on ranking, position, past involvement, off season efforts, program needs and coach’s judgement. FRESHMEN (9 th ) Up to 15 players Top ten (10) remaining ranked 9 th graders in the program and other spots filled by ranking, position, and coaches’ judgement.
