1 Food How does food meet your needs?? Have you ever tried studying or paying attention to something when you are hungry?

2 Meeting Physical Needs Food meets one of your basic physical needs You will not be able to focus in anything else until you meet this need You need food to supply energy and maintain functions so you can preform tasks Meets two physical needs  Eases Hunger  Affects your state of health

3 Relieves Hunger Body senses when you need what food provides, which sends a message to your brain Hunger: physical need for food Stimulates your stomach to produce hunger pangs and stimulate your appetite Appetite: psychological desire to eat  Influences food choices  Anything can relieve hunger, but what will satisfy you?? You can eat or not  If you eat it relieves hunger, If not what might happen?

5 Improves Wellness Wellness: state of being in overall good health Involves mental, physical and social health- The three areas of wellness all affect each other

6 Physical Health Health of your body Food relieves hunger AND helps you grow and develop normally Food can also help you to avoid diseases

7 Mental Health State of your mind 1 sign of good mental health is how you handle stress  Stress: mental tension caused by change- both negative and positive Food can help you handle stress Eating well gives you the strength you need to handle stressful situations Helps you to avoid illness (which can bring on stress)

8 Social Health Health of your relationships with other people Eating healthy helps you feel strong and energetic, gives you confidence! Food is also a part of many important social gatherings!
