3 Plastic When clay is plastic, which means to be easily formed, and is wet to the touch but still holds it’s shape

4 Leather Hard When the clay has begun to dry and feels cool to the touch, but it does not bend well without cracking.

5 Green Ware The clay feels dry and chalky. It may feel a little cool to the touch. The clay will not move without breaking. Also referred to as Bone Dry.

6 Bisque Ware After the clay has been fired for the first time in the kiln and before it has been glazed.

7 Glaze Ware After the clay has been fired for the second time in the kiln to turn the glaze into the glass like exterior.
