Practice using an Interactive PowerPoint By Emily Higgins

Reminder Notes To add a slide, go to “Insert Slide” on the TurningPoint toolbar and choose the kind of slide you want. You can edit the slide in some of the same ways you edit a normal slide (i.e. change the font sizes, change the location of the text). To poll a question, make sure that “Response Devices” is checked in the pull-down on the TurningPoint toolbar. To reset the slides, choose “Reset” from the TurningPoint toolbar and choose “Session” (asks if you want to save responses), “Current Slide”, or “All Slides” (does not ask you to save).

Likert Scale A Likert scale is good for asking questions that fall on a range, such as strongly agree to strongly disagree. To do so, go to “Insert Slide”, mouse over “Likert slides”, and choose from three, five, or seven responses. Remember, if you choose fewer responses and want to add more, just press “Enter” after the last choice and TurningPoint will add another response choice.

What is your opinion of TurningPoint? 1. Love it 2. Like it 3. No opinion 4. Dislike it 5. Hate it

Analogy Slide You can make an analogy slide in two ways: Make a generic response slide and format the question with colons. Mouse over “Icebreaker Slides” and choose “Analogy”. On the next slide, notice how there are only two answers. The bar graph to the right automatically adjusts to match the number of possible answers.

TV remote : television :: clickers : 1. USB receiver 2. Projector screen

Responses Only To conduct an opinion poll without the bar graph, choose “Responses Only” from the dropdown menu on “Insert Slide”. On the right, it shows the percentages of how many chose that answer. One downside: In order to keep the answer and the percentages in line, you must move them together. The numbers on the right do not move if you move the answers on the left.

What is your favorite thing about TurningPoint? 1. Ability to conduct formative evaluation. 2. Simplicity of the TurningPoint software. 3. Ability to conduct anonymous polling. 4. Interactivity with students. 0%

More! Remember, you can add more to each interactive slide! Choose “Insert Object” to add charts, a countdown timer, or statistics, for some examples. Have fun creating, editing, and using interactive PowerPoints!
