4. The Toledo War! Michigan was at war with Toledo over some land. Ohio used to own the Upper Peninsula. Michigan used to own a small strip of land in Toledo, Ohio.

9. The Union Side: North During the Civil War, the union was the Northern part of the United States. They were against slavery and wanted to make it illegal. *They fought for equal rights for everyone. *They wanted to end Slavery!

10. The Confederate Side The confederates were the Southern part of the United States. They fought for slavery. They wanted it to continue and didn’t believe everyone should have equal rights. They wanted to break away from the USA

11. Michigan Michigan was very important in helping slaves escape to freedom! 1.There were many people willing to house, feed, and guide slaves to Canada. 2.There were many routes to take leading to Canada.
