Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Copper Strip Corrosion of LPG’s 1Place a sheet of silicon carbide paper on a flat surface and moisten with isooctane. 2Remove all surface blemishes from all 6 sides of strip using steel wool or silicon carbide paper. 3 Once all blemishes are removed, polish first the ends and then the sides with 105 µm (150-µm mesh) silicon carbide grains picked up with pad of absorbent cotton moistened with isooctane. 4Polish strip uniformly using long strokes that carry beyond the end of copper strip. 5Remove any metal dust with clean cotton pads moistened with isooctane. 6When strip is clean, with minimal delay, attach to dip tube and lower into prepared test cylinder (see note below). NOTE: Prior to testing, clean test cylinder thoroughly with isooctane and dry. Immediately before polishing strip, with bottom valve open on cylinder, add 1 ml distilled water to cylinder and swirl to moisten walls. Allow any excess water to drain from cylinder. 7After assembly of cylinder with strip, close both the top and then the lower valves of cylinder. 8 Keeping cylinder in upright position (to prevent copper strip from getting wet by touching walls of cylinder). Deliver prepared cylinder assembly to unit for sample collection. 9With minimal delay after sample collection, immerse sample in water bath maintained at 100 ± 1° F. 10Allow cylinder to remain in bath for 1 hour ± 5 minutes. 11At the end of the test period, remove cylinder from bath.
