The return of these items will be at the principal’s discretion. The school will not be responsible for the security of these items if they are lost or stolen. Cell phones & Ipods We encourage students not to bring cell phones or ipods to school, but in the event they do, they must not be out or used at Macon Middle School or on any school bus before or during school hours. Macon Middle School is not responsible for the security or damage of these devices brought to school. 1 st Offense: Verbal warning, parent is notified, device is collected & student can pick it up at the end of the day. 2 nd Offense: Device is confiscated & a parent/guardian must pick up the device from school. 5 Cafeteria Rules: Students are expected to follow appropriate classroom behavior in the lunchroom. They are responsible for keeping their area clean and disposing of their unfinished food in the appropriate manner. Macon Middle School has a zero tolerance policy for throwing food in the cafeteria. Any student who throws food in the cafeteria will receive OSS. ** YOU ARE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS NOW! ACT LIKE IT!

6 Absences All absences from school will be coded as unexcused unless an excuse note is received from the parent, guardian, or physician immediately upon the student returning back to school. No handwritten notes from parents will be accepted more than 10 days passed the absence. School administration will use the following criteria to determine if the absence will be excused: Personal illness or injury which makes the student physically unable to attend school (Administration may require notes from the medical provider) Isolation or quarantine ordered by the State Board of Health Death in the immediate family Medical or dental appointments (proof of medical or dental appt. should be turned in) Other absences may be approved as excused with approval from the principal Excessive Absences When there is an accumulation of 10 or more unexcused absences, the school must notify parents and take all steps required by G.S. 115C ‐ 378 (which is state attendance law) for excessive absences. A report of truancy must be reported to the District Attorney who will take appropriate measures to ensure that there is compliance with the state attendance law. Per Macon County Board Policy, no student shall miss more than twenty (20) days during the school year, if he or she is to receive credit for the grade level. Thus, students may be retained in the current grade if they miss more than twenty (20) days.

7 Excessive Tardies Students with excessive tardies will receive consequences deemed appropriate by school administration. These may include loss of privileges, lunch detention, ISS, or OSS
