4 Social Changes Women’s roles changed More education of children Mixing of cultures – Cultural Diffusion Competitive with the West after Meiji Restoration The MOST modern Asian Nation

5 Strengths of Meiji Japan was able to compete with the west because of a modern military Japan gained power in Eastern Asia Japan begins aggression in China and Korea (a Western-like thought) 1905- Treaty of Portsmouth – Japan gains control of Korea
