1 OTTAWA-CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM and THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS

2 EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM The Extended Day program is an integral part of the Full Day Kindergarten program: Offered before the core day begins and continues at the end of the day Delivered by teams of Registered Early Childhood Educators and Early Learning Assistants

3 EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM Planning that is consistent with the approach taken in the core day program Makes use of shared resources and shared common spaces to create a seamless system of care and education for children and families

4 EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM CURRENTLY The District operates the Extended Day program in 7 locations The 7 programs operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program is offered to all children registered within the school Children are grouped by ages A ratio of one adult to 13 children is being maintained in the Extended Day program

5 EXTENED DAY PROGRAM CURRENTLY The Early Childhood Educator works in both the Core and the Extended Day program The Extended Day program operates on all PA days, one week of the Christmas Break and March Break Families will be surveyed to indicate their need, interest and demand for summer programs at the 7 current sites

6 Third Party Operators ELIGIBILITY TO BE A THIRD PARTY OPERATOR: The operator must be a not-for-profit corporation or a municipality The operator must be licensed by the Ministry The operator must be eligible to receive fee subsidy payments for children enrolled in the program The content of the third-party program must be the same content that a board is required to include in a board- operated Extended Day Program

7 OCDSB Standards of Service Deliver extended day program as legislated by the Ministry of Education Hours of operation will be 7am to 6pm Days of operation Flexibility in options of care (ie. am only, 3 days a week) Provide care to all children registered within a school (up to the age of 12)

8 Agreements Agreement to grow to meet the demand Non compete clause will be in the agreement Agreements will be one year in length Administration fee – is currently being explored with the Ministry of Education

9 TIME LINES Moving Forward: Surveys will be returned to the schools by February 29 th 2012 The District will communicate with potential Third Party programs the week of March 19, 2012 Parents will be notified by the District the last week of March regarding their decsions

10 TIME LINES Moving Forward: The District will provide an individual agreement for each specific location Subsidies
