2 Academic Structure Missson Statement – Academia Esperanza’s mission is to reach children, and their families, in impoverished parts of Ecuador; to develop followers of Jesus Christ who live with a focus on eternity; to provide students with a high quality education, and a caring community where students are taught essential life skills, critical thinking, and compassion in their dealing with others. Hope Academy is a private Christian school. Home

3 Curriculum Philosophy – The components of the curriculum come from highly recognized publishers. Teachers are also asked to evaluate how the materials can be adapted to integrate Christian worldview principles. – All classes are taught in Spanish except for the required daily English class. – All students are welcome to attend school regardless of religion. – All students are required to attend chapel services and participate in other religious activities – The school will work with their partners to identify the specific needs of the community and partner with them to identify, purchase, or write the curriculum for the after school programs and summer program. 4 Structure of the school year – Modified traditional school year. School will begin the first week of August. There will be 8-9 week quarters with a 2 week break after each quarter. School will end at the end of May. – Two 3-week summer sessions will be optional for students. Each summer session will provide tutoring for students who are falling behind, address life skills, job training, and community improvement. Structure of the school day – School begins at 8am and ends at 3:30pm. – There will be a 1 hour lunch period from 12-1pm to allow time for students to have lunch with their families. – After school activities begin at 3:30pm and end at 6pm. They will be free and available for all students. These will include tutoring, life skills, and community improvement. Home

5 Assessment – An entrance exam will not be required to determine who attends the school. – Assessments will be given multiple times throughout the year in order to determine the child’s abilities and ongoing progress. Homework – The students will not have homework in Elementary school. – Middle school and high school students may be given homework when appropriate. Home

10 Student Characteristics The school will accept students regardless of religious affiliation, socioeconomic status, or gender. The school will begin as an elementary school for children in Kindergarten through 6 th grade, but will expand to include middle school, high school, and a trade school. The school will also offer seminars on evenings and weekends to parents or guardians of students, and other adults in the community. After the school has been established, evening and weekend classes may also be offered. Home

11 Admission criteria – Academia Esperanza will work with our partners to identify students who would benefit from a private education. Uniforms – Students will be required to wear uniforms to school. Uniforms will be provided by the school for students who cannot afford to purchase uniforms. 12 Infrastructure Funding – Tuition Monetary- for families that can afford it Goods – food or other forms of goods that can help the school Services- helping with various needs around the school, working the skill set – Partner with Non-profit Organizations like Compassion International and World Vision – Staff: Teachers and administration will be self- supported missionaries. – Donations and purchase of goods created at the school. 14 Miscellaneous Community needs – The impoverished communities of Ecuador have poor quality public schools or the students are unable to attend because they cannot afford the uniforms and supplies. – Along with traditional subjects in school, students need to be taught life skills and other ways to help improve their community and help break the cycle of poverty. 15 Miscellaneous Communication with parents – The school will get involved with the families to learn their needs, and provide life skills training – Communication with parents is also essential to understand the family situation and see what needs can be addressed. Communication with Partners – The school will work with their partners to identify the specific needs of the community and reassess the program as the needs change.
