Vocabulary Dilution Concentrated Solute Solvent solution solutions ppm
2
Solution = Solute + Solvent One of them is called the solute. A solute is the substance to be dissolved (sugar). The other is a solvent. The solvent is the one doing the dissolving (water). As a rule of thumb, there is usually more solvent than solute.
3
Dilute To make thinner or less concentrated by adding a liquid such as water
4
Concentration
5
Which is more concentrated? (more solute)
6
How could you increase the concentration of a solution?
7
. To concentrate a solution, one must add more solute (for example, alcohol), or reduce the amount of solvent (for example, water). By contrast, to dilute a solution, one must add more solvent, or reduce the amount of solute.solutesolvent
8
What does 10% concentration of food dye mean?
9
What does 10% solution of food coloring mean?
10
How would you make a 1000 ml of a 10% solution of food coloring? 1 part out of 10 would be food coloring. 100 ml of food coloring + 900 ml of water = 1000 ml of solution 100/1000 = food coloring = 1/10 = 10%
