CSE Senior Design I Superior Designs, Inc. Summer 2013 Approved Projects (for prototype delivery December 2013) Instructor: Mike O’Dell

1 Bowling Ball Tracker  Develop a system using high-speed cameras to track a bowling ball going through the pins.  Determine a variety of factors from video analysis such as entry angle and exit angle,  Use image analysis to determine where the ball travels through the pins and what happens to the pins once hit  Meet other requirements per USBC specification  Sponsor: Emily Troutman, Research Engineer, USBC

1 Virtual Reality Magic School Bus  Develop a "living" tour of something from history, inside the body, out in the solar system, journey to the center of the earth, or some other "Magic School Bus" style scenario.  Utilize VR headset for “tour” participants  S ponsor: Paul Sassaman, plus suitable external advisor (e.g. 5 th or 6 th grade science/history teacher)

1 Taekwondo Training Game  Develop a “real player” game to support Taekwondo training  Uses (provided) sensing armor worn by players to detect “hits.”  Detect force of hit and deduct “life” based on strength/position of hit  Played as training game for non-professional taekwondo students.  Sponsor: Friend of SD1 student, Jack Feng

1 Rehabilitation Exercise Assistant  Develop a “game” to measure and quantify the movements of disabled people as they engage in rehabilitation activities  Develop a set of exercises to address various body areas, such as fingers, arms, upper body, neck, etc.  Work with the CSE HERACLEIA Lab to select devices to record and analyze exercises  E.g. computer, tablet, and/or the physical world (via CAVE, Kinect, etc.)  Sponsor: TBD (possibly HERACLEIA Lab)

1 Auto Performance Analyzer  Develop a module that plugs into a car’s computer that reads the OBD codes and transmits that data via Bluetooth of Wi-Fi to a cell phone or tablet  Analyze codes and display parameters such as engine temperature, RPMs, Air/Fuel mixture, trouble codes, etc. on the screen  Provide for local and remote storage of data and graphing capability for data analysis.  Sponsor: TBD (possibly local auto shop?)
