9 Timeline Moses lived from approximately 1525-1405 BC –Completed writing of Exodus after 1445 BC –Exodus covers approximately 431 years of history –Arrival of Jacob and his family in Egypt to the construction of the Tabernacle in Sinai in 1445 BC Israelites lived in Egypt for 430 years (Gen 12:40) –Time of oppression was 400 years (Gen 15:13) –Transition time in Egypt –Egyptians had expelled the Hyskos rulers of the time –Egyptians formed a world power of which there was no match

12 Rulers of Egypt in Exodus Ahmose I (1570-1548 BC) –Founder of the New Kingdom after the expulsion of the Hyksos rulers, consolidated borders –Initiated temple building projects Amenhotep (1548-~1528) Thutmose I (~1528-1518 BC) –Meaning “Born of Thoth” –Thoth the Egyptian god of wisdom –Moses’ early childhood –Therefore Moses would be Egyptian “Born of” and Mu meaning water

17 Overview of Exodus 35-40 Referred to as the Code of the Priests Like Ex 25-31, describe Israel’s need to experience the reality of God’s presence Moses invites people to bring contributions for construction of the tabernacle (35:4-19) People began to bring what builders need (35:20-29) Tabernacle components (36:8-38:20) Raw materials used in construction (38:21-31) Priests’ clothing (39:1-31) Finished tabernacle presented to Moses (39:32-43) Building and consecration of the tabernacle (40)

18 Covenant had been restored and Moses announces God’s direction for tabernacle construction –Only to work six days Moses invites the people to bring contributions for construction (35:4-19) –People began bringing items (35:20-29) Moses recognizes Bezalel and Oholiab as being appointed by God to lead construction (35:30-36:2) This provision inspires the people to give even more –So much so that Moses has to tell them to stop giving (31:3-7) Preparation for Construction (35:1-36:7)

22 Tabernacle is put together on the 1 st of the 1 st month –Approximately one year from the Exodus (40:2, 17) –Nine months after Israel arrived at Mt. Sinai (see 19:1) Narrates God’s commands (40:1-15) Moses obedience to His commands (40:16-33) –Seven times Moses does this (See 40: 19, 21, 23, 25, 26, 29, 32) With the tabernacle complete, God descends in a cloud and fills the tabernacle (40:34-39) Finally, God was dwelling among His people –However, Moses was unable to enter….Leviticus yields the pathway ahead for Moses Construction and Consecration (40:1-30)
