2 1940 The Battle of Britain The Battle of Britain took place from July 10 th to October 31. 544 airman killed, 422 wounded, and 1,547 aircraft destroyed for the British. 2,698 airmen killed, 967 captured, and 1887 aircraft destroyed. The British won the war.

4 1941 The Attack on Pearl Harbor The attack happened on December 7 th, 1941 The attack lasted 110 minutes which was from 7:55 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. This attack drug the U.S. into WWII. The American casualties was 2,388 died, 1,178 wounded, and 21 American ships were sunk.

6 1942 The Battle of Midway This Battle took place on June 4 th, 1942. Japanese fleet consisted of 6 aircraft carriers, 11 battleships, 13 cruisers, 45 destroyers, assorted submarines, transports, and minesweepers. The American fleet consisted of 3 aircraft carriers, 8 cruisers, 14 destroyers, and the aircraft stationed at midway.

8 1943 French Resistance leader killed Jean Moulin was killed July 8 th, 1943. He was 44 years of age. He was born on June 20 th, 1899 in Beziers, France He was kidnapped by the Gestapo and beaten to near death. He died on the way to the concentration camp Auschwitz.

9 1944 D-Day The attack happened on June 6 th, 1944. The attack consisted of 160,000 troops, 5,000 ships, 800 planes, 13,000 paratroopers, and 300 bomber planes. The troops landed on 5 codename beaches GOLD, JUNO, SWORD (which the British and Canadians landed on), UTAH, and OMAHA (which the U.S. landed on).

11 1945 The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki On August 6 th, 1945, 8:15 a.m. a bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and it was called “Little Boy”. On August 9 th, 1945, 11:02 a.m. that bomb dropped on Nagasaki was called “Fat Boy”. In total they killed 220,000 at the end of 1945.

13 1946 Juan Peron becomes President On 1946 Juan Peron started his first term as President of Argentina. He served three terms in office from 1946- 1952, 1952-1955, and then 1973-1974. His third term was cut short because he died of a heart attack. He made great accomplishments in the years 1946-1952 and 1973-1974 but didn’t do so great in 1952-1955.

14 1947 Chuck Yeager breaks sound barrier He was 24 years of age when he broke the sound barrier. The aircraft he flew was a X-1 rocket plane. It was named the Glamorous Glennis to honor his wife It’s maxed out speed was 662. This flight took place at Muroc Air Base, which is now know as Edwards Air Force Base.

16 1948 The Berlin Airlift On June 26 th, 1948 the Berlin Airlift which was a blockade of Berlin took place. This was meant to supply resources to two billion citizens of Berlin. This airlift lasted for 15 months. The food requirements were 2,000 tons daily. 850,000 paper sacks were needed per month.

18 1949 NATO established On April 4 th, 1949 the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established. This treaty was established in Washington D.C. Now the NATO headquarters is now located in Brussels, Belgium. Currently NATO is consisted of 28 independent countries.
