19 Purchase of Practice- 2000 CSR Primary Care No longer employed physician Learning curve for running our own office Challenges of billing, insurance, staffing, equipment, management issues, retention and recruitment of employees Practice broadened to include men and more general private practice Continued work with medical students and residents

20 Looking for personal growth and change -2004….. Recertified in Internal Medicine 2004 Mobile Medicine Van Considered leaving clinical medicine for job in safety/pharmico-vigilence at Abbott Accepted new position on faculty at UIC I’M BACK !!!!

22 New and Diverse Experience ! EMR- first exposure Out-patient clinic/ In-patient adult medicine Clinical research using EMR Medical Students-Ambulatory Site Director, evaluations, letters of recommendation, advising, remediation, Student Run Clinic, IM Residency- recruitment, evaluations, supervision

23 Changes in Personal Life 2010 Began to rethink career that was heavily clinical medicine Growing practice associated with increasing paperwork, documentation and time requirements, increasing regulatory demands Husband decided to semi-retire and wanted to have more flexibility in schedule

24 Corporate Job 2011-2012 Accretive Health- Consulting Job- Chart reviews and summaries, analyze admission criteria and admission status Improved computer skills, data mining, learned about business side of medicine Used clinical skills but no direct patient contact

25 Masters Degree in Public Policy National Louis University – Chicago 2011-2012 Improved foundation in government, social studies and political issues Improved writing skills including proposals, grants and reports of all kinds Learned approach to policy making
