Bullying Prevention: Empowering Bystanders

When should you intervene as a BYSTANDER? When hearing about potential school violence When seeing physical violence When hearing name calling When asked to spread a rumor When asked to exclude someone

Bystanders can be… Bullies: if they do not help, then they are part of the bullying Silent supporters: stand with the bully but do not say anything Defenders: students willing to stand up for the victim and tell the bully to STOP Potential defenders:Students who think the bully is wrong but are afraid to do anything

We can end Bullying… if Bystanders Stand Up Against Bullies! Bystanders can tell an adult at school and an adult at home. Tell bullies to STOP! Bystanders can include others Bystanders can make friends with students who are being bullied.

What victims want you to do… 1. Don’t make things worse by laughing. 2. Tell an adult. 3. Be a friend to victims and help them get away from the bullying. 4. Be a friend to victims-sit with them, play with them, and show them its not their fault. 5.If the bullying is done by a friend or a younger student, ask the bully to stop in a peaceful way.

YOU can put an END to bullying!
