2.  The Common Core.. Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year all NC schools adopted the National Common Core Standards. NCCS has implemented these standards for every subject area in all classes! It is essential for your child to master these kindergarten skills in order to be successful with their future education.

4.  Count to 100 by ones and tens Write numbers 0-20 Solve addition and subtraction problems ▪ KNOW MATH FACTS FLUENTLY Compare objects Identify, build, draw and name squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders and spheres Math Skills

5.  Compare 2D and 3D shapes Sort objects We use the Math Expressions curriculum as our teaching guide. Students will not have math homework, but we encourage them to work on their math skills outside of school. Math Skills

10.  Read with your child EVERY night ▪ The goal is 15-20 minutes. Practice letters and sounds Be sure your child can write his or her name in appropriate print (not all capital letters) Practice sight words Practice number recognition and writing numbers Please check your child’s binder every night. (Parents may attend) Green Room Play “The Cat in the Hat”- February 26 th, 2016 (no parents) Letterland at Tweetsie – The date for this trip is not yet confirmed, but typically takes place in early May.
