Welcome to Mr. Hammond’s class! Please sit in your assigned desk, and start on your BELLWORK immediately. 1) Make sure you are in your assigned seat. If you are unsure, ask Mr. Hammond. 2) Fold your index card in half and use a marker to neatly write your FIRST name (or what you want me to call you) on both sides. This is called a “name tent.” Set it on your desk, with your name facing the front.

7 Things Students Want to Know on the First Day of School

#1 - Am I in the right room? Yes! Welcome to room 208!

#2 – Where am I supposed to sit? Each of you has an assigned seat. We will eventually rotate seats. If you have a problem with where you are currently sitting, let me know BEFORE you leave the classroom today!

#3 – What are the rules of the classroom? 1. Arrive READY for class. o Materials, homework, and attitude 2. Show RESPECT to all people at all times. o Disrespecting ANYONE physically or verbally is not allowed. 3. Take RESPONSIBILITY for your actions and work. o Do your best! Whatever effort you put into this class determines what you get out of it. o Choosing not to follow procedures results in consequences. o Do not tamper with room equipment/materials. You will be held responsible if you break something!

Mr. Hammond’s Classroom Procedures

Beginning Class Class begins as soon as you walk in the door. Take out classroom materials and get started on bellwork as soon as you come in! I grade bellwork for completion, but occasionally I will take it up and grade for accuracy. When the bell rings, you are in your seat and you are NOT talking.

Ending Class Class is over when I dismiss you, not when the bell rings. Normally we will already be finished and you can go as soon as the bell rings, but sometimes I may have a few “last words” to say. Do NOT leave your seat or line up at the door.

What if I need… To ask a question or leave my seat Raise your hand A pencil/pen/calculator Trade ID badge To go to the restroom You get 4 bathroom passes each 9 weeks To find out what I missed when I was absent? Check the absence box for work. You only have FIVE days to make up missed work. Late work is not accepted!

Other Procedures Eating in classroom Taking notes Turning in assignments Getting the attention of the class Cell phones

#4 – What will I be doing this year? 2 questions… What is physical science? What do you do in physical science?

#5 – How will I be graded? Grading procedures are listed on your syllabus

#6 – Who is this teacher as a person?

#7 – Will the teacher treat me like a human being? Of course! As your teacher, I value each and every one of your opinions. While I hope to teach you a lot this year, I also hope to learn a lot from each of you!

Classroom Procedure Pact

Interest Inventory Please complete the student information sheet. When everyone is finished, please pass papers to the front of each row to be collected.
