2 www.hivnet.ubc.ca Introduction NEW for 2015!! The CTN Study Submission & Review Process will now be conducted in two stages: 1. FIRST STAGE: Registration in the form of a Letter of Intent (LOI) submission 1. SECOND STAGE: Full proposal submission including provision of all supporting documents; (study protocol, informed consent template, budget, questionnaires)

5 www.hivnet.ubc.ca Introduction LOIs must be submitted for review prior to the full application LOI & Review Process will run twice per year, submission calendar located @: http://www.hivnet.ubc.ca/research-services/forms/ Current/Upcoming round: The deadline for LOI registration for the Spring competition is June 12, 2015 Studies eligible to proceed to stage 2 will be notified on June 19, 2015 The deadline for stage 2 documents is September 30, 2015

6 www.hivnet.ubc.ca LOI requirements LOIs may be submitted by either the principal investigator or sponsor Each study must have a Canadian CTN-affiliated investigator Multi-centered observational studies will be considered provided that they have been peer-reviewed, approved, and fully funded by CIHR or NIH LOIs must include the following: Primary Investigator and CTN-affiliated Investigator information Study proposal abstract Core co-lead acknowledgement Primary source of funding (if any) identified Open to multiple Network centers (or justification for single centre)

7 www.hivnet.ubc.ca LOI Application Form, Page 1 Enter Core Approval information. Enter applicant full name. Enter applicant work address. Enter applicant work telephone number. Enter applicant email address. Check the type of study that is proposed. Enter project title. Describe the background information for your project. Include information such as X, Y, and Z. This section should be approximately N words. Describe the objectives of this study and how it relates to the current body of research. This section should be approximately N words.

8 www.hivnet.ubc.ca LOI Application Form, Page 2 Check the type of methods that will be used for your study. Keep in mind the objectives and funding limitations of the study. Hypothesize what results that will be received. This section should be approximately N words. Describe the significance of the results of this study and the impact the results could have on the existing field of research. This section should be approximately N words. Check whether this project is funded. If so, check the type of funding that this project has already received. If not, check whether funds are anticipated, or whether additional funds are requested from the CTN.
