8 Viewing in Portrait or Landscape Double-click the Home button to view the Multitasking status bar, then flick from left to right. Tap to lock the screen orientation.

9 Adjusting Brightness To adjust the screen’s brightness, double-click the Home Button to view the Multitasking status bar. Flick from left to right, then drag the brightness slider.

11 Connecting to the Internet Join a Wi-Fi-Network Turn on Wi-Fi: Choose Setting > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on. Join a Wi-Fi network: Choose Settings > Wi- Fi, wait a moment as iPad detects networks in range, then select a network. If necessary, enter a password and tap Join (networks that require a password appear with a lock icon.

12 Adding Mail Accounts Setting Up Google Accounts In Settings, tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.” Tap Add Account, then tap. Enter your name, email address, password, and a description.

14 Safari Opening Webpages Tap the Safari app to access the internet. Tap the address field to bring up the onscreen keyboard Type www.nytimes.com, then tap Go. www.nytimes.com

15 Safari Zooming Zoom in or out: Double-tap a column on a webpage to expand the column. Double-tap again to zoom out.

16 Safari Opening Multiple Pages Open a new page: Tap and tap New Page. Go to a different page: Tap and tap the page you want to view. Close a page: Tap and tap

18 Mail Sending Email Tap at the top of the screen. Type an email address in the To field. Enter a subject, then your message. Tap Send.

19 Mail Sending Email Reply to a message: Open a message and tap Tap Reply to reply only to the sender or Reply All to reply to the sender and all recipients. Type your return message, then tap Send.

20 Mail Sending Email Forward a message: Open a message and tap and then tap Forward. Add one or more email addresses, type your message, and then tap Send.

21 Mail Checking and Reading Email Check for new messages: Choose a mailbox, tap Inbox, or at any time. Unread messages have a blue dot next to them.

22 Mail Checking & Reading Email Load additional messages: Scroll to the bottom of the list of messages and tap Load More Messages. Read a message: Tap a message. Within a message, tap or to see the next or previous message.

23 Mail Searching Email Search email messages: Open inbox, scroll to the top, and enter text in the Search field. Tap From, to, Subject, or All to choose which fields you want to search. Delete found messages: After completing a search, tap Edit, then select the messages you want to delete. A checkmark appears next to each message you select. To delete the messages, tap Delete.

25 Calendar Syncing Calendars In Settings on iPad, turn on Calendars in your Google account to sync your calendar information over the air. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Account

26 Calendar Viewing Your Calendar List view: All your appointments and events appear in a scrollable list, next to the selected day. To view a different day, tap or or select a day from the timeline below the calendar. Day view: Scroll up or down to see the day’s events. Tap or to see the previous or next day’s events, or select a day from the timeline below the calendar.

31 Notes Writing and Reading Notes Add a note: Tap type the note, then tap Done. Read a note: Tap the note. Tap or to see the next or previous note. Edit a note: Tap anywhere on the note to bring up the keyboard. Edit the note, then tap Done. Delete a note: Tap the note, then tap

33 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account. Open the App Store on your device. Find a free application on the App Store. Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must purchase the free application by tapping Free.

34 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account Tap Create Account. Tap Agree located at the bottom of the page to continue. Choose your country, then tap Done.

35 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account Enter your email address, security question, birthday, and create your password. Tap Next. Select None as your payment option.

36 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account Continue to fill out the required email, address, and phone number fields. Tap Next. You’ll then see a screen that says “Verify Your Account.” Tap Done and check your email for a verification email from iTunes Store.

37 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account Open the email and click the link enclosed in the email to activate your account. Once you tap the link, the App Store should automatically open and then prompt you to sign in with your account name and password. Tap Sign In then when prompted and then tap Use Existing Account.

38 App Store Creating an iTunes App Store Account You’ll then see a Congratulations screen. Tap Done to be taken to the App Store home page.

39 App Store Updating Apps Update an app: At the bottom of the screen, tap Updates. Tap an app to see more information about the update. Tap Update. Update all apps: At the bottom of the screen, tap Update, then tap Update All.

40 App Store Deleting Apps You can delete iPad apps that you’ve installed from the App Store. You can’t delete built-in iPad apps. Delete an App Store app: Touch and hold any app icon on the Home screen until the icons start to jiggle. Tap in the corner of the app you want to delete. Tap Delete. Press the Home button to cancel.

42 Settings Wallpaper Set wallpaper: Choose Wallpaper, choose an image, then do one of the following: To use the image as the background for the Lock screen, tap Set Lock Screen. To use the image as the background for the Home Screen, tap Set Home Screen. To use the image as the background for both the Lock screen and Home screen, tap Set Both.
