2. 2 Overview The City of Houston desires to increase its current waste diversion rate to preserve valuable landfill airspace and reduce spending for waste disposal. To accomplish this goal, the city must invest in community education, equipment and service expansion to more homes.

3. 3 Recycling Revenue Fund Establishing a dedicated funding source to invest in recycling programs is key in allowing the City of Houston to promote correct environmental stewardship behaviors in customers and other area “landfill” partners.

4. 4 Recycling Revenue Source Through the sale of recyclable materials, the City of Houston generated more than $1,000,000 in FY08. Curbside commodity revenue averaged $61,456 per month in FY08.
