2 Samuel de Champlain  Was born in 1567- died in1635 at Quebec.  Born in Brouage /a town in France.  Champlain is best known the Father of New France.  Early Life-He loved the sea.  He loved to draw.

3  Champlain had three jobs.  Champlain’s father was a captain which lead him to exploring.  Champlain’s drawing lead him to become a mapmaker.  Champlain loved the sea which lead him to become a navigator.

4  He discovered lake Champlain in 1609  Champlain sailed to France in 1603  He lead 32 colonies to settle Quebec.  He was 36 when he explored.  In 1610, Champlain won a battle against the Iroquois.

5  Champlain and his settle on dochet is- land saint Croix.  He explored Quebec.  In 1598 the saint julion was chosen to sail to Spanish land in American 1603 Champlain grave expedition Champlain sailed to Spain with his uncle on a ship called the saint Julion we now call it Puerto Rico Mexico.

6  Samuel de Champlain wanted to explore places and he also wanted to get fur. But he found the Huron and the Algonquins. So he traded guns, swords… for fur. He also traded his help to beat the Iroquois for fur.  Champlain also sent explorers westward to continue the search for the Northwest Passage. A Northwest Passage is a route to the Pacific Ocean, but nobody found it.  Champlain didn’t found a Northwest Passage because there wasn’t one.  Champlain was sent from king Henry 4, (king of France).

7  Champlain became friends with two Native American groups, the Algonquins and the Hurons.  Champlain got along with them very well, thanks to the trades he made with the Native Americans.  The partnership between the Native American groups and the French lasted for more than a hundred years.  Champlain could speak a little Native American language.
