1 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL UPDATES Mrs. Belma C. Villanueva Principal

2 Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

3 1 2 Why are we now implementing 12 years of basic education?
*The Philippines is the last country in Asia and one of only three countries worldwide with a 10 year pre-university cycle (Angola and Djibouti are the two). *A 12-year program is found to be the best period for learning under basic education. It is also the recognized standard for students and professionals globally. 2 What is Senior High School? *Senior High School (SHS) covers the last two years of the K to 12 Program and includes Grades 11 and 12. In SHS, students will go through a core curriculum and subjects under the track of their choice.

4 3 4 Will SHS mean two more years of High School?
*Yes. These two additional years will equip learners with skills that will better prepare them for the future, whether it be: Employment, Entrepreneurship, Skills Development and Higher Education . 4 How will the college and technical-vocational courses be adjusted due to the K to 12 curriculum? Will adjustments be made in time for the first graduates of K to 12? *TESDA will download some of its basic technical competencies while CHED will transfer some general education subjects to basic education. *CHED will be releasing its college readiness standard which will be the basis for the competencies in Grades 11 and 12.

5 5 6 Will SHS ensure employment for my child?
*SHS creates the following opportunities: 1. Application of required standards to assure graduates' readiness and competence for employment and/or entrepreneurship 2. Graduates will receive TESDA Certification (COC or NC) for better work opportunities 3. Partnership with different companies will be offered for all tracks as part of the students' on-the-job training 4. Entrepreneurship courses will now be included. Instead of being employed, students may now start their own business after graduating, or may pursue higher education in college. 6 How will SHS affect my child's college education? *This ensures that by the time your child graduates from SHS, he/she will have the standard, skills and competencies needed to go to college.

6 7 8 Must my child go to SHS? How will students choose their
Senior High School specializations? *Students will undergo assessments to determine their strengths and interests. These will include aptitude test, career assessment exam, and occupational interest inventory for high schools. Career advocay activities are also conducted to help guide students in choosing their specialization or track. 8 Is SHS really necessary? Must my child go to SHS? *Yes. According to the law, beginning , the Grade 10 or junior high school completers must enrol to Grade 11 and the full implementation of this K to 12 program is on This is when the first graduates of K to 12 will commence.

7 9 10 Senior High School? If I choose not to send my child to SHS,
what will happen to him/her? *He/She will only be a Grade 10 completer, but not a high school graduate. In K to 12 Curriculum, an elementary graduate must finish the 6th grade while high school completers must undergo six years in secondary education, which means Grade 7 to Grade 12. 10 Where can I find more about Senior High School? *Visit the Official Website of Department of Education, or consult the Administrator/Principal of the school where your child is currently enrolled for assistance, guidance and suggestions.

8 11 Will Imus Institute open Senior High School in 2016-2017?
*Yes. We have already completed the requirements set by the Department of Education and have granted a Provisional Permit last March 31, 2015 to operate Senior High School in 2016. Since Imus Institute, Inc. is a Certified TESDA Training and Testing Center and PACUCOA Level 3 Accredited Institution, we are geared to continuously provide quality and relevant instruction and training.
