2 What is a sentence? A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. Examples: A large truck entered the parking lot. A teacher ran to the truck. I like many books.

3 Sentences Sentences always have a subject and a predicate. It must tell who or what and what is or what happens. It begins with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark

4 Fragment A group of words that does not express a complete thought is called a sentence fragment. Examples: The girl who Flashed in the sky When the tree fell

5 Subject and Predicate simple subject- the main word that tells whom or what the sentence is about Many bats live in caves. simple predicate- the main word that tells what the subject is or does Many bats live in caves

6 Subject-Blue Predicate-Red A large truck entered the parking lot. A teacher ran to the truck. The girl read her SSR book …the predicate is also called the verb
