3 Abstract a GHz multi-band CMOS frequency synthesizer for WLAN and UWB applications new multi-mode prescaler and adaptive multi-band LC VCO six modes of divide-by-2/3, 4/5, 8/9, 16/17, 32/33, and 64/65 the gate width of cross-coupled MOS array is tuned to calibrate oscillation amplitude and alleviate 1/ƒ flicker noise of MOS -121 dBc/Hz at 5 MHz offset from 5.24 GHz carrier a total current of 26mA at 1.2 V 0.13-μm CMOS process technology

4 Introduction WLAN (wireless local area networks)
The a working in 5-GHz UNII (unlicensed national information infrastructure) band supplies a bandwidth of 300 MHz and provides twelve nonoverlapping data channels of 20 MHz. A MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) integrated system begins to appear in chip market for the purpose of enhancing the present technology. The unlicensed frequency spectra of GHz has been allocated by FCC (federal communications commission) as UWB (ultra-wideband communication) band. UWB system must satisfy high-date rates as well as a fast band switching time of nanoseconds.
