6 Start Stop 2 Stop 3 Stop 4 Stop 5 Stop 6 Stop 1 NextBack Stop 1: Tennessee State Capitol Building This graceful structure was designed by noted architect William Strickland who considered it his crowning achievement. When Strickland died suddenly during construction in 1854, he was buried in the north facade of the Capitol. The cornerstone for the building was laid on July 4, 1845, and construction finished in 1859.

8 Start Stop 2 Stop 3 Stop 4 Stop 5 Stop 6 Stop 1 NextBack Stop 3: House of Representatives The House of Representatives is the largest room in the building. It houses 99 representatives. The 14 th and 15 th amendment were ratified in this room.

9 Start Stop 2 Stop 3 Stop 4 Stop 5 Stop 6 Stop 1 NextBack Stop 4: Senate Chambers The Senate chambers is rich with architect and original chandeliers from the 1800’s. Since the it’s a “working” capitol, the chambers are closed to visitors while in session.
