It is originally designed city in the US? It was built on a ten-mile-square territory? The site was chosen by George Washington – the first American President and named after him? D.C. means District of Columbia – a popular name given in the 18th century in honor of Christopher Columbus?
The streets running from north to south bear the numbers 1,2,3.. starting from the Capitol ? The east-west streets are named A,B,C… and major avenues are named after some of the 50 states? It is one of the most visited cities in the USA(government buildings, museums etc.)?
Is the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate Before the buildings were constructed (around 1800) Congress met in Philadelphia. American visitors may obtain passes to the House and Senate galleries from their representatives or senators.
