TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY  Black & White- due to its lower cost and its "classic" photographic look.  Aerial- is the taking of photographs of the ground from an elevated position.  Sports- newspapers, major wire agencies or dedicated sports magazines, advertising.  Journalism  Architectural- is the practice of photographing buildings and similar structures, both inside and out.  Scenery  Travel  People

Careers in Photography  Commercial photography- is photographer is paid for images rather than works of art.  Advertising photography- photographs made to illustrate and usually sell a service or product.  Fashion and glamour photography- usually incorporates models. Photographers here are paid more because of the demand for good photographers to shoot the item being sold and incorporate the models beauty in the image.  Crime scene photography- consists of photographing scenes of crime such as robberies and murders. A black and white camera or an infrared camera may be used to capture specific details.

Careers in Photography  Still life photography- usually depicts inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made.  Food photography- can be used for editorial, packaging or advertising use. Food photography is similar to still life photography, but requires some special skills.

Careers in Photography  Editorial photography- illustrates a story or idea within the context of a magazine. These are usually assigned by the magazine.  Photojournalism – photographs made in this context are accepted as a documentation of a news story.

Careers in Photography  Portrait and wedding photography- photographs made and sold directly to the end user of the images.  Landscape photography- depicts locations.  Wildlife photography- demonstrates the life of animals.  Paparazzi

Camera  The camera is a dark room or chamber from which all light is excluded except the light that forms the image.  The subject being photographed, however, must be illuminated.

APERTURE  is a hole or an opening through which light travels.  a wide aperture results in an image that is sharp around what the lens is focusing on and blurred otherwise.  the narrower the aperture, the darker the image

SHUTTER SPEED  Adjustment of the speed of the shutter to control the amount of time the imaging medium is exposed to light.  Shutter speed may be used to control the amount of light striking the image.  Faster shutter speeds (shorter duration) decrease both the amount of light and image blurring from motion.

METERING  Measurement of exposure so that highlights and shadows are exposed according to the photographer's wishes.  Many modern cameras meter and set exposure automatically.

ISO SPEED  The higher the ISO number the greater the film sensitivity to light.  A lower ISO number the film is less sensitive to light.  A combination of ISO speed, aperture, and shutter speed leads to an image that is neither too dark nor too light.
