1 Welcome to Curriculum Night Please sign in before you sit down.

2 Imagine It Imagine It is broken into 3 core areas; phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, and grammar. Each week we will introduce a new sound spelling pattern that directly correlates to our spelling words. We will take a spelling test and a dictation test each week on Friday.

3 Imagine It (continued) Each week we will also read a different story in our anthologies. We will identify new vocabulary words and focus on specific skills such as main idea, cause and effect, summarizing, making inferences, and sequencing. There will be a comprehension test every Friday. Example Test There will also be a vocabulary test at the end of the unit.

4 Accelerated Reader STAR test in the computer lab in the next few weeks AR has changed this year. We are now using Renaissance Learning which gives us access to more tests than we had in the past. You can look for AR books at home on www.arbookfind.com www.arbookfind.com

5 Writing We will expose our students to many different styles of writing including:  Narrative writing  Expository texts- How-To Books  Non-fiction writing  Poetry

6 Investigations Math In Math we will focus on identifying coins, place value, patterns, problem solving skills, geometry, graphing, and measurement. Math Facts- practice, practice, practice It is also important to help your child write numbers correctly IXL Math website

7 Science We have four big ideas that we will learn about in Science this year. Each one will incorporate science experiments, exploration, and hands on learning.  Weather  Life Cycles  Matter  Sound

8 Social Studies This year we have a new social studies curriculum called Exploring Where & Why: Communities Here and There. We also received new materials that the students have already started using. In S.S. we’ll focus on major concepts including, communities, map skills, government, and history.

9 Homework Each week your child will be responsible for homework in the following areas:  Reading- recorded in their agendas  Math  Spelling  Writing It will be your child’s responsibility to copy down their spelling words, take home their agendas and folders, and turn in their work.

10 PBIS Our school adopted the Positive Behavior al Interventions and Supports plan two years ago. It focuses on reinforcing positive behavior in the school and classroom. Behavior Expectations PBIS notes home PBIS rewards

11 Thursday Folders We have NEW Thursday Folders this year. Please make sure that they are emptied each week and returned to school. There are often important papers that need to be signed so make sure to look at them carefully.
