1 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be learning how to identify a cause and effect situation within a story. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to draw conclusions based on a passage and support the conclusion with details from the passage. 2 nd – 6 th Rockstars April 21 st -25th Weekly Reminders BCMS Parent University This is for 6th grade students and parents! April 24th, 5:30-7:00pm Students were given a handout at school. 2nd Grade Math-My students will be multiplying by 3 and 4 by skip-counting, using known multiplication facts to find new multiplication facts, and dividing using related multiplication facts. 3rd Grade Math-My students will be comparing the number of sides and angles in plane shapes, making and comparing angles to right angles, and identifying perpendicular and parallel lines. 2nd Grade Literacy I can determine if a sentence is fact or opinion based upon if it can be proven true. I can identify important ideas in a text by looking for text features. I can develop vocabulary to use when reading, writing, and speaking. 3rd Grade Literacy I can recognize that to compare and contrast I must tell how two or more things are alike or different. I can use details from the story to support my comparisons. I can develop vocabulary to use when reading, writing, and speaking. 2nd Grade Science This week our 2nd grade science class is celebrating Earth Day by creating projects from recycled materials. We will also begin a unit on engineering. 3rd Grade Science I can explore the physical properties of air. I can explain how differences in air pressure create winds. I can describe how clouds form.

2 Bowen Science classes are learning about the weather systems. Language Arts classes are learning how to write informative papers such as research papers. **Please pay special attention each week for information regarding activities at the middle school. This info will all come fast and furious these last 8 weeks of school.** Math- For the next two weeks in math we will be learning about angles. We will be measuring and drawing angles as well as understanding how angles turn. Science- We will be learning about the states of matter and the changes in each state of matter. We will also be studying mass, volume, density and vacuum. Writer's Workshop Our authors are still working on turning Prose To Poetry. We will continue to master the art of poetry this week. Daily 5 We are pressing onward with our CLOSE Reading of Poetry. We are reading, dissecting, analyzing, and annotating poetry. Rock On! Linder 5th grade Math I can determine the number cubes in an irregular solid. I can find the surface area of a prism. I can compare volumes of cubes and rectangular prisms. I can find the volume of a rectangular container. I can find the capacity of a rectangular container. 5th grade Social Studies I can compare the Union and Confederate Armies. I can describe aspects of a soldier's life during the Civil War. I can explain what ended the Civil War. 6th grade Social Studies I can describe the importance of imperial rule in Ancient Chinese society. I can create visuals to represent qualities of legendary Chinese emperors. This week in math, we will be learning about surface area and volume of solids. We will start the week by working in groups to identify nets of different solids and create our own shape and net. We will then venture off to the wild journey of finding surface area of hands-on boxes of different shapes! How exciting! Finding surface area of real-world situations will end this unit and prepare for statistics! Get your minds ready and excited for rocking with surface area!
