1 2 nd – 6 th Rockstars November 4 – 8 Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to draw inferences from a story or passage. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to correctly identify the author's purpose for writing a story (to persuade, to inform, to entertain, or to express ideas or feelings.) Tuesday, November 5 th – No School in honor of Election Day Tuesday, November 19 th – Have all items for your homeroom basket turned in Monday, November 25 th – Winter Extravaganza If anyone would like to sell a variety box of candy, please send a note to your child's homeroom teacher. 2nd Grade Math – My 2nd Graders will be using bar models to solve real world addition and subtraction word problems. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd graders will be working on using bar models to solve 2-step real-world addition and subtraction word problems. 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd Grade class will be studying about the Westward Movement. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will continue their study of the thirteen colonies. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying Kentucky's Explorers and Settlers as well as the French and Indian War. 2 nd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. I can explain the difference between a fact and an opinion. I can make valid predictions based upon what has already happened in the story. I can describe a drama. 3 rd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. I can compare and contrast events and characters in a story. I can use the visualize strategy to improve comprehension. 2nd Grade Science I can describe how sense organs warn people of danger. I can explain how people use what their senses tell them. 3rd Grade Science I can give examples of adaptations organisms have for meeting needs. I can distinguish between inherited and learned characteristics.

2 Bowen We have the winners of this years Conservation Essay for 6th Grade. 1st Place: Hunter Hurt 2nd Place: Olivia Crowe 3rd Place : Alec Hatcher The Conservation Poster winners will be announced next Monday! Stay tuned...... Math - This week in math we will be continuing with multiplication and division with while numbers. So far we have worked on multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will continue with these strategies and begin dividing with and without remainders. Science - We have had a lot of fun learning about the water cycle, expect a quiz early this week. We will move on to clouds and weather this week! Conservation projects are due November 8th! Writer's Workshop We will be looking at the differences between a friendly letter, a business letter, and an email and all of the components that need to be included in each writing process. Then, we will write a letter to our favorite author, TV star, movie star, singer, etc. as our summative assessment. Daily Five We are so excited that our reading fluency checks increased. Our words per minute read increased by at least 20 words. Our assessment scores are rising as well. These are two excellent reasons that we enjoy Daily Five. Linder Math Fifth graders are continuing to work with fractions. This week we will work on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Students will also be working on solving real world problems involving fractions and mixed numbers. Buckets are due on Friday. Social Studies In fifth grade, we will begin Chapter 8 Facing Slavery in which students will learn about slavery from the perspective of the West Africans. In sixth grade, students will continue their Wiki/Five themes of Geography country project. We are still learning how to set up our Wiki's online. Students and well as parents will be able to view progress at home.. We will wrap up Ch 3 with out Test on Tuesday. Be sure to practice by using some of the websites on my Teacher page. Our next exploration will be with Rates and Ratios. What is the ratio of boys to girls in your home? The answer to this question will earn you 10 Eagle Bucks. Go Figure!!!
