In 1677 he was in France again and obtained patent to build forts, explore la Salle, Henry Tonti, and there small crew reached the mouth of the Mississippi river.

He explored the Niagara river , great lakes, Detroit river , lake St. Clair, St. Ignace ,green bay Wisconin , St. Josphe river and the Illinois river.

La Salle explored because he wanted to claim Lausanne and the Mississippi river for France.

The Algnonies were allies of the French.
The Iroquois were the enemies of the French.
The Iroquois agreed to make peace with the French settlers.
During the winter of 1668 La Salle let some Iroquois to stay on his land.
