Room Draw 2013-2014

 The process  The timeline  Things to think about…  Questions

 Gustavus is a residential college – all students are required to live on-campus. We don’t have space for everyone…so we use this process to grant permission to live off-campus.  The COLLEGE is residential.  Residential Life simply manages the process.  Residential Life is mandated to try to have up to 98% occupancy (about 2050 of 2100 total beds)

 Room Draw number  Random based on class year  Range of numbers will be 3000-3999 for rising seniors, 2000-2999 for rising juniors, etc.  You will NOT get number in your P.O.  Groups for off-campus applications  Size of groups: 1 to 8  Average Room Draw number taken

 Must complete online housing contract  It’s available NOW (through WebAdvisor)  Applications are available through the Residential Life website (“Housing” on left-hand side).  Application is due by March 13, 2013.  Notification should happen before spring break!

 Important stuff…  EACH person in the group MUST fill out an application.  List everyone you want to live with…  People currently off campus should NOT be listed on application

 Married  A veteran of military service  23 years old by the first day of class of fall semester.  Have custodial responsibility for dependent children  Live with your custodial parents/guardians in the St.Peter area (w/in 15 miles)  Be home owner (100% of home)  Residency waiver form (medical/extreme financial need)  Current junior and sophomore students allowed to apply through Room Draw process

 For 2012-2013  We have about 350 off campus right now.  For 2013-2014  ~ 100 will retain off-campus permission  Approximately 175 new permissions (conservative estimate)  Why “approximately?”

 Your Room Draw number matters.  Average of entire group taken if we have to revert to Room Draw numbers.  Number let off will reflect female/male ratio  55% female  45% male

 Leases  Off-campus permission is not used as a reward. It’s an option that SOME students have…  If you sign a lease…it does not mean we must grant you permission to live off-campus  If you sign a lease without an “out clause” – you are likely legally bound to that lease.

 Once a group – always a group!  $500 reduction in aid (talk to Financial Aid with questions)  Have back-up plans! Talk to your roommates about other options on campus, just in case…

 Your Financial Aid Award may change  Talk to someone in Financial Aid to find out details – each person’s financial award is different, so make sure you inquire!

 The process is designed with seniority in mind.  Don’t believe the hype!  Rumors are rarely true.  We will be honest and up front about the process.
