 I chose this experiment because I find that my socks are always tearing. This made me wonder which of my socks was the most durable, and the cheapest so I wouldn’t have to spend a large sums of money on my socks even if they were fairly durable.

 -Four pairs of socks  -Plywood plank  -Four sheets of sandpaper  -Measuring cup  -Meter stick  -Spring scale

 The Nike Sport Sock would be the best value for money. I believe this because not only does it seem just as strong as the other socks it is much cheaper than them too.

 First I placed a wooden plank inside the first sock I would be testing, with the heel of the sock facing up. Next I hooked up a sander and attached a new sheet of sandpaper on the bottom of it. Then I placed the sander on the sock, midway between the heel and the toe.

 Then I turned the sander on and using the same amount of pressure gently moved it up and down along the sock. I did this for thirty second intervals until the sock tore. I recorded the time and repeated this process again three times after switching to a new sheet of sandpaper every time.

 First I cut a one inch by three in strip off of the heel of each sock. Then I attached the spring scale to my ceiling, and hooked the sock to the bottom of it. Then once I had it all set up, I had someone pull down slowly on the spring scale until the strip tore. I was standing right in front of the spring scale ready to read the final amount of weight the strip could take. Then I repeated this with the last three socks.

 I started this test by cutting the elastic at the top of each sock off. Once I had all four strips of elastic I picked one and looped it around the hook at the bottom of the spring scale. I again had someone pull down on the elastic until it wasn’t able to stretch any more.

 I stood there with a yard stick getting the distance (in inches) that the sock could stretch. Once I was done with this process I repeated it with the last four socks.

 First I cut a one inch by one inch square form the heel of each of the socks. Then I filled up a measuring cup with one- hundred milliliters. Then I held the sock in the water for thirty seconds, and then once that thirty seconds was over I let the sock drip for five seconds. I then recorded the amount of water left in the measuring cup.

 My hypothesis was correct, in that the Nike Standard Sport Sock was the overall winner  The Adrenaline came in second, Under Amor Training third and Nike Elite last
