2 Solutions Towards Everyday Problems What is it?

3 To provide locally based support to children, families & tier 1 staff to encourage emotional well being & positive behaviour To provide timely, early & direct involvement to achieve positive outcomes. To provide training, consultation & support to professionals in statutory and voluntary agencies. To promote multi-agency collaborative working. How does it work? The Aims

5 Family STEPs Family Support Workers Primary Mental Health Workers Specialist Teachers and Educational Psychologists YISP Transition Mentors (in specific areas) The Family STEPs Network Fun & Families

6 Family Support Workers l Aim to offer brief focused intervention & build on existing strengths in the family l Work with parents/carers within the home setting on home-based behavioural issues (below the age of 13)

7 Primary Mental Health Workers Aim to offer early identification/intervention relating to mental health issues, improve access to specialist CAMHS & support tier 1 provision Provide consultation, support, direct work, training & networking

8 Fun and Families Aims to support families experiencing child/adolescent behaviour problems. Organise courses for parents and young people and train tier 1 practitioners to run the courses Courses include Fun & Families, Living with Teenagers, Avoiding Conflict with Adults

9 Transition Mentors Aim to raise educational achievement, self- esteem & resilience & to reduce exclusions & likelihood becoming involved in crime Provide a year long programme of activities with identified vulnerable young people who are moving from KS2 to KS3 and their families. Provide support in school, home & community

10 Teachers & Educational Psychologists When there are concerns about a childs behaviour & emotional well being in educational settings, we aim to: improve children's emotional well-being encourage positive behaviour in children build parental confidence and skills support Tier 1 staff in their work with children provide consultation and training for STEPs practitioners about educational issues enable a comprehensive home-school approach to be taken

11 YISP Preventative Workers Aim to prevent children becoming involved in offending/anti-social behaviour, to prevent re-offending, to increase protective factors & reduce risk factors Work with children & young people from 8-16 years of age, who are at risk of offending/anti-social behaviour

12 Interagency working is not rocket science, its more difficult. (Kukic, 1997 in Cole et al, 1998)

13 Sharing a common goal Organisation Communication Team work

14 Referral Process & Criteria If you have a family who may need support from one or more of the teams within the Family STEPs network they/you should consult the referral criteria or contact any of the managers Complete a request for direct work form with the family Referrals received by operational group who undergo a screening process
