2 A Growing Owner Presence About 1,200 CMAA members – roughly 20% – are owner-affiliated. –38 owner organizations –3 “large” owner organizations Owners turn to CMAA for help in delivering their projects. Their membership benefits service providers, too.

3 The Value Proposition Why should an owner join CMAA? What do owners want from CMAA? From the chapter? How can chapters reach out and help?

4 Key Values to Owners Standards of Practice –Helps owners know what to expect from CMs –Serves as a guide to successful projects Code of Ethics –Assures transparency and confidence Certification –Identifies the most qualified and experienced CMs

5 Meeting Owner Needs EducationNetworking Access to potential bidders/consultants Info about latest trends in the market

6 Education Provide training at a discount for owners/organizations. Tailor content of training to owner needs. Make it convenient – Online webinars, lunch/breakfast meetings, etc. Take training opportunities to them – Go to the owner’s offices to train staff.

7 Networking Invite owners as guests to chapter events – golf tourneys, awards dinners, etc. “Owners’ nights” – very popular. Consider special fees for owners at meetings and events. Include owners on chapter Board

8 Access Consider having owners host chapter meetings at their offices Invite owners to present info about their upcoming projects Offer owners “roundtable” venue to express what they need/expect. Use honorary and trial owner memberships to invite participation

9 The Latest Market Info Share CMAA publications Put owners on your chapter newsletter distribution list Pass on news items, research reports, content from national conferences, etc. Use social media – listserves, Twitter, Facebook, etc. – to link owners to sources of new info.

10 The Bottom Line Create a comfortable, productive conversation between owners and CMs Recruit owners as leaders of your chapter. Involve owners in all of your activities, not just special events. Build relationships that are good for business, good for owners, good for the chapter and good for CMAA!
