1 Welcome to Day #11 Today we are going to review the rules regarding behaviors that are: Unacceptable or Unacceptable or Harmful & Dangerous Harmful & Dangerous

2 What are the Rules?

3 Electronic Devices We recommend that you DO NOT bring the following items to school: * Cell Phones * Radios * MP3 players * iPods ® * Electronic Games & Other Toys

4 Why? They are attractive and someone might be tempted to steal them from you. They distract you from your studies. They MUST be off and out of sight during SCHOOL HOURS – even lunch! If we see them, we will take them. Your parents will have to come and pick them up. That will make them cranky!

5 School District policy does not allow skateboards to be ridden at school – yes, we know you love them – leave them at home! Bicycles may only be ridden if you also wear a helmet – that is state law! Lock it in the bike rack. Walk it, if you are on campus.

6 Tardiness You must be in your seat when the tardy bells rings. If you are late to class, you will be assigned trash duty at lunch.

7 Truancy You are TRUANT from school if you are not here, and your parents have not called the office to say why. You are also TRUANT if you leave class, or the school without permission.

8 Running Running in Physical Education class is a good thing. Running on The Commons (lunch court) and in the hallways is NOT a good thing.

9 Sidewalks Walk on the sidewalks so that our grass can grow. Gum Gum makes a mess. It is not allowed.

10 Couples Kissing, passionate embraces and intimate touching are not allowed. It is okay to hold hands. Three second hugs are okay, too.

11 Profanity Namecalling Spitting Gambling Really? What would your grandmother say? You know better than to behave this way!

12 Closed Campus Students are to remain on the school grounds from the time of arrival at school until dismissed at the end of the day. You are not allowed to go anywhere else once the bus, or your parents, have delivered you to school.

13 Possession of Markers Teachers will provide marking pens if they are needed in class. Students are NOT ALLOWED to have markers – especially Sharpie Markers – in their possession at school.

14 Selling Things on Campus Only approved organizations (PTSA, cafeteria, and school clubs) are allowed to raise funds on campus.

15 Glass Containers, Matches & Lighters These things are dangerous at school. Students MAY NOT have them here.

16 Unacceptable Behavior Defiance Defiance: Refusing to do what an adult asks. Disruption Disruption: Anything that stops the educational process in the classroom or on campus.

18 W eapons, Explosives, Chemicals possess replica Students may not possess a weapon on campus. This includes but is not limited to Airsoft guns, replica weapons and items that could be used as a weapon. The possession or lighting of fireworks – including poppers – is illegal on school grounds.

19 Swiss Army Knives It is not illegal for you to own a Swiss Army Knife, but it is illegal for you to have one at school. do not show it to your friends If it accidentally ends up at school, do not show it to your friends. Immediately turn it over to a teacher, counselor, or vice principal. You will get it back, and you will NOT be in trouble. If you show it to your friends – you WILL be in trouble.

20 Students must not tease or bother other students in a sexual manner. This means you must not touch, talk, write, or draw something related to the specific nature of being a boy or a girl for (meaning any body part that is covered by a bathing suit).

21 Fighting Students must not cause, attempt to cause, or threaten to cause physical injury to another person, especially other students or staff members. Play fighting is also not allowed – because it is too easy for it to switch into a serious fight, and may be a form of bullying.

22 Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs furnishing possession The sale, furnishing, possession, use, or being under the influence of any of these substances is against the law. distribution controlled substances expulsion Sale or distribution of controlled substances or alcohol, will result in a recommendation for expulsion.

23 Drug Paraphernalia negotiate paraphernalia Students must not possess, offer, arrange, or negotiate to sell drug paraphernalia.

24 Vandalism maliciously defaces Anyone who maliciously damages or defaces school or personal property is required by law to pay for damages.

25 Stealing Do not take anything that does not belong to you.

26 Obscenity Offensive profanity Offensive printed materials, language, or habitual profanity is forbidden. Trash out of your mouth will result in your having to pick trash up off the ground!

27 Extortion intimidation Any student involved in taking money or other possessions of value through the use of intimidation or force is breaking the law.

28 Rock Throwing Do NOT throw rocks – if you throw them at another person, the rock could be considered a weapon.

29 Hate Violence ancestry disability gendersexual orientation Students must not cause, attempt to cause, threaten to cause, or participate in violence based on a person’s race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender, or sexual orientation.

30 Trespassing on School Grounds Students are not allowed to be on the campus of a school, other than Marston, without the specific permission of that school’s principal. … you need permission to visit another school.

31 Consequences Trash Pick Up * You may be assigned to pick up trash during the lunch period, before school, or after school. Cleaning/Landscaping * You may be assigned to assist the custodian or gardener if you have written on tables or walls, destroyed plants, or otherwise damaged school property.

32 More Consequences Detention * You might be assigned be at school early, stay at school late, or miss out on lunchtime activities. * You will sit in a quiet space and study or read. In-School Suspension * You will sit in the office or some other area – all day - and complete your class assignments alone. * You will not eat lunch with the rest of the students.

33 Even More Consequences Make Restitution * You may be asked to pay for or replace anything that you have stolen or damaged. This includes the property of fellow students, school property, and the property of businesses and private homes on the way to and from school.

34 Awful Consequences Suspension * People who know you decide * Parents are called * You must stay home from school (from 1 to 5 days) * It goes on your record from now through high schoolExpulsion * People who DO NOT know you decide * Police may be called * You don’t get to go to any other regular middle school * It goes on your record from now through high school

35 Terrible Consequences Arrest * Sometimes the school has no other choice than to call the police. * It doesn’t matter if you are usually a great citizen, or even a straight A student. * If you break the law, you could be arrested.

36 * Make the right choice – even if no one else knows. * The mark of good character is how you behave when no one else is looking. * Do it because it is the right thing to do, not because you will get rewarded, or because you’ll get in trouble if you don’t.
