Diary of Anne Frank Experience it

Virtual Experience Do you take where you live for granted? At the age of thirteen, Anne Frank was forced out of her home by the Nazis. Anne Frank's most memorable years were spent living above an office in a secret annex. For many months, Anne Frank could not talk, use running water, turn on lights, wear shoes, or go outside. Many of the things you do at home every day, she was not allowed to do.

Your Task: At the time of your choosing within the next week, you will live for an hour and a half as Anne Frank did in the annex. You will have to complete this task at home. Here are your instructions: 1.) Take off your shoes, remove all portable electronics from your room (this is VERY important), inform your family not to interrupt for any reason and explain why, go to your room, close the windows and doors, and turn off all of the lights except for one flashlight or candle. 2.) During the time in your room, you can not talk, eat, use running water, watch TV, text, play videogames, listen to music (even with headphones), walk, or do anything that makes excessive noise such as flushing the toilet.

Keep a diary - Record your thoughts, reactions, and activities you experience by writing your own diary reflection. Your Writer’s Notebook will do. Your diary is due next Wednesday, April 3rd. Your diary will be turned into a formal paper.

Gather your thoughts Prewriting – answer all questions in complete sentences in your Writer’s Notebook. Be sure to restate the question. This is page 1 of your diary. 1. If you had to leave your home on a moment’s notice with nothing but the clothes on your back and a small bag, what would you bring? (NO ELECTRONICS!) Tell why you chose each item. 2. What would you do to entertain yourself in absolute silence for long periods of time if you were locked indoors? 3. Do you have a favorite hiding place? Explain. 4. If you were locked up with your family for a long stretch of time, who would you hang out with and why? 5. Who in your family would you confide in and why? 6. Do you think something like the Holocaust could happen in the 21 st century and to your family? Explain. 7. What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? What was your attitude like – complete panic, cool under pressure, etc? Would you describe your thoughts and feeling as positive or negative throughout the experience?
