Scientist Experience: Project to inspire young women to take up STEM careers. Project to inspire young women to take up STEM careers.

Overview What are the aims? What we are doing? How can we maximise the impact? How are we measuring the impact?

Aims Address the aspirations, highlight the opportunities and career choices for 16/17 year old school students. Show the career opportunities as part of international collaborative science. Challenge the perceptions of parents, teachers and the general public to the role of women in science. Show how science impacts the world we live in and is underpinned by school learning.

How we are measuring the impact “ For me personally, Dorothy Hodgkin is a figure I aspire to imitate. Researching her has re-enforced the idea that I can achieve great things in science if I persevere, and that I shouldn’t let perceptions and stereotypes of women in science prevent me from fulfilling my potential. Perhaps one day I will leave a legacy as great as hers”. Chloe Tomes - King Edward VI College, Nuneaton. “Overall, she was an amazing scientist, mother and woman, who defied convention and prejudice to become one of the greatest female scientists that ever lived. Not often you get to say that”. Sophie Eastabrook- Rugby High School

How we are measuring the impact “Thank you so much for offering us four places!! I have emailed all the students and Olivia has already replied saying “Thank you! Christmas has actually come early:)” This really does mean so much to our students”. Kate Robinson (Teacher) - Cardinal Newman College “I would just like to say once again a thank you to you and all the team for the very informative and enjoyable meeting on Wednesday night, it was nice to meet you all and I know Anastasia is simply thrilled that she has been successful in getting on this trip and cannot wait to go”. Louise Couzens (Parent)
