My trip to Poland - Emma Moonen

Sunday1/03 This was the long day of travelling with all the Dutch students to our destination: Warsaw! As soon as we arrived, I met my amazing host family and I went to their house. I was very tired, so I went to bed early.

Monday 2/03 We were welcomed by the school, with all kinds of performances: singing, acting, dancing etc. After this, we went to the Old Town of Warsaw. It was very beautiful!

Monday 2/03 Today it was Nils’ birthday, he is one of the Dutch students. We celebrated it by buying him this awesome, really pretty yellow shirt. I mean come on, how handsome does he look? In the evening, we went bowling with the whole group to celebrate Nils’ birthday.

Monday 2/03 In between the visit to the Old Town of Warsaw and the bowling, I went home with my host Yasmina. We had a typical Polish dish: Pierogi.

Monday 2/03 After the meetup with the group we went home again, and here I had a cup of tea with my host family. We talked about our cultures and typical rituals, but all of us were actually very tired so we went to bed. The first day in Poland was already a lot of fun

Tuesday 3/03 This was a day full of visits, impressions, buildings and walks. We started with a guided tour through Warsaw, in which we saw a lot of the city.

Tuesday 3/03 After the tour through the city, we went to the Royal Castle and Staszic’s Palace. It was a lot of listening and walking, but it was all very beautiful! When we had seen everything in the palaces, we went to the stadium of Warsaw, 60.000 people fit in there! It was amazing to see, and we also had the opportunity to go into the VIP-rooms and skyboxes.

Tuesday 3/03 After seeing the stadium, the programme finished. We went home and decided to go see the film ‘Ida’ with the whole group. It was an amazing film, and everyone enjoyed it! Then we went home, had a cup of tea again and went to bed.

Wednesday 4/03 We started the programme of this day by going to the mayor of this specific district of Warsaw. We had the opportunity to ask him all kinds of questions, and he told us a lot about Warsaw and its inhabitants. After listening to the mayor, we got some cookies and drinks, made a group picture, and continued with the programme.

Wednesday 3/03 We went to Copernicus, this is a sort of a museum in which you are able to do a bunch of stuff! We had a lot of fun being there

Thursday 5/03 When I woke up, I was shocked this already was the last day in Poland. I wanted to stay a bit longer, haha! When we arrived in school, all we actually had to do this day was to sit behind our computers and finish our tasks on wikispace. It wasn’t very exciting, but it was a nice way to say goodbye to all the students, teachers and the school.

Thursday 5/03 After the long day in school though, a few of us went to Pa łac kultury. We went upstairs (by lift, thank god), and here, we were able to see Warsaw in panorama view. It was amazing!

Thursday 5/03 So that actually was everything we did in Poland. I went home one last time, sat down, and had a cup of tea with my host family. We spoke about my experiences and the things I had seen in Poland. My conclusion was that Poland is more than what I thought of it, because in Holland, we actually don’t know a lot about these cities. I went to bed for the last time, actually struggling falling asleep because I didn’t want the trip to end…

Friday 6/03 When I woke up, I wrote a little letter for my host family, in which I thanked them for the amazing week. We went to the airport, where I met my Dutch classmates, and I said goodbye to my host family and Yasmina.

Friday 6/03 Then, after lots of waiting, delays and most of all, lots of fun; we went back to Holland.

My trip to Poland was absolutely amazing, I had the best host family ever and I’ve seen and learnt how Poland really is. It’s different than what I had expected it to be, but in a good way! Poland is an amazing city, with its very own style and culture. I would love to go back one day. I want to thank everyone who was involved in this project, you guys rock! ♥
